Message by the President
College of Pathologists of Sri Lanka, 2024

Dear Members, Colleagues and Friends,

It is with profound honor and privilege that I assume the role of President of the College of Pathologists of Sri Lanka for the year 2024. This esteemed institution has been the bedrock of pathology education, research, and patient care, steadfastly contributing to the advancement of our field.

As we celebrate the 49th anniversary of the College, a year preceding our golden jubilee, it is an opportune moment to reflect on the rich legacy and accomplishments that have shaped us. This year's program of events has been carefully crafted to pay homage to this significant milestone in our history.

Sri Lanka faces formidable challenges, with economic constraints impacting the healthcare sector and a noticeable brain drain depleting our human resources. Despite these obstacles, our duty remains unwavering - to deliver the best pathology services to our patients and uphold the high standards we have diligently achieved over the years.

In the coming months, the College is dedicated to fostering pathology education through various initiatives, with the highlight being the ICON 2024 - the ninth international conference in collaboration with the Sri Lankan British School of Pathology. Scheduled for October 16-19, the conference will focus on breast, thyroid, and lymphoma pathology. Additionally, our academic subcommittee has planned numerous workshops and webinars throughout the year to enhance knowledge and skills within our community.

Collaborating closely with the Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka is pivotal in these challenging times. Together, we aim to provide the best possible pathology services across the entire island, ensuring that our efforts remain resilient in the face of crisis.

I extend a warm invitation to all - members, healthcare professionals, and stakeholders - to join hands with the College of Pathologists of Sri Lanka. Let us collectively strive to achieve the goals set for the year and ensure that every patient in Sri Lanka benefits from our unwavering commitment to excellence. Thank you, and may our work continue to bring healing and hope to those in need.

Sincerely,

Priyanka Harshani Abeygunasekara,
President, College of Pathologists of Sri Lanka, 2024
