It is with profound honor and privilege that I assume the role of President of the College of Pathologists of Sri Lanka for the year 2025. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to lead this distinguished community of dedicated professionals, all committed to advancing the field of pathology and, ultimately, improving patient care. This year holds particular significance as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of our college - a testament to the vision and tireless efforts of those who came before us.
Building upon the strong foundation laid over the past five decades, we will focus on several key initiatives in 2025 to further our mission. A major highlight will be our 50th Anniversary International Conference in October. This prestigious event will bring together leading experts from around the globe to share the latest advancements in pathology. Throughout the year's programs, we will also incorporate historical perspectives, acknowledging the remarkable evolution of our field over the last 50 years.
Our 50th anniversary provides a unique platform to showcase the profound impact of pathology on patient care. A key component of this effort will be a public awareness program, implemented with stronger media engagement, focused on the critical importance of early cancer diagnosis and the vital role pathology plays in this process. To nurture the next generation of pathologists, we will also engage undergraduate medical students through a national pathology quiz, fostering interest in the field.
To commemorate this milestone year, we will publish a comprehensive book detailing the rich history of our college, documenting its significant contributions to the field and celebrating the dedication of its members.
Furthermore, we will collaborate closely with the Ministry of Health and the state universities, making a significant investment in quality improvement initiatives for peripheral laboratories. This collaboration underscores our commitment to providing the best possible pathology services across the entire island.
I am confident that by working together, we can achieve these ambitious goals and make a lasting impact on the future of pathology in Sri Lanka. I am fully committed to serving this college with dedication, integrity, and passion. Thank you for your trust and support.
