LRH Histopathology Laboratory Achieves National Accreditation
The Histopathology Laboratory at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children (LRH)
proudly announces its successful attainment of national accreditation from The
Sri Lanka Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment (SLAB) this June (2025).
This significant achievement, which positions LRH among a select group of
accredited laboratories, signifies the lab's adherence to stringent international
standards (ISO 15189) in all aspects of its operations.
This accreditation is a testament to the dedicated efforts of the LRH
Histopathology team, led by
Dr. Sandini Gunarathna (Consultant Histopathologist at LRH).
Key contributors to this success include
Dr. Gishani Ganhewa (Medical Officer),
Mr. Saman Jayasekara (Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist - SMLT),
Mrs. Dayakshi Kodagoda (Medical Laboratory Technologist - MLT),
Mr. Gayan Krishantha (MLT), and other supporting staff.
The journey towards accreditation for histopathology laboratories in Sri Lanka
began several years ago when the subcommittee for accreditation of histopathology
laboratories was established by the College of Pathologists of Sri Lanka. LRH was
identified as one of five laboratories selected to participate in the initial
phase of this rigorous accreditation process.
This milestone for LRH follows in the footsteps of the Army Hospital Histopathology
Laboratory, under the supervision of Brigadier Dr. Geethika Jayaweera, which made
history as the first histopathology laboratory in the government sector to obtain
SLAB accreditation in 2023.
The LRH accreditation underscores the lab's unwavering commitment to improving
efficiency, maintaining high-quality standards, and ensuring accountability in its
vital medical laboratory services. With this official recognition, the laboratory
is now permitted to use the prestigious SLAB seal on its reports, affirming its
status as an accredite
