Hands-on Workshop on FNAC & Onsite Evaluation of Breast and Thyroid
Lesions
The College of Pathologists of Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Departments of Radiology
and Pathology, Colombo South Teaching Hospital, successfully conducted a Hands-on
Workshop on FNAC and Onsite Evaluation of Breast and Thyroid Lesions on 19 May 2026 at
the S.A. Gunawardena Auditorium, Colombo South Teaching Hospital.
The workshop brought together postgraduate trainees in surgery, ENT, oral and
maxillofacial surgery, endocrinology, radiology, and pathology for a comprehensive
programme covering the clinical, radiological, and cytological assessment of breast and
thyroid lesions.
Following expert lectures, participants engaged in supervised hands-on practical sessions
on fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and rapid onsite evaluation techniques.
The programme featured an experienced multidisciplinary faculty from Colombo South
Teaching Hospital, the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, the University of Sri
Jayewardenepura, and District General Hospital Hambantota. The interactive format
provided valuable practical experience and strengthened collaboration between clinicians,
radiologists, surgeons, and pathologists.
